“The Alliance for America was formed in an attempt to curb excessive government environmental regulations, harassment by environmental extremists and violations of constitutional property rights,” according to this year’s announcement. “The Fly-In for Freedom has become both a celebration of the principles this country was founded on and a growing annual pilgrimage for Americans across the country who recognize that without direct involvement in the democratic process, we may never get those principles back.”

From the beginning, New Yorkers have been strongly represented on the Alliance for America, even though the idea came from the Northwest, when timber harvests were being closed down by the spotted owl debacle. Carol LaGrasse was one of the founding members of the Alliance for America in 1991, and David Howard of Caroga Lake, New York, was the founding president. Another New Yorker, Dale French of Crown Point, is currently vice president of the board of directors. Harry McIntosh heads the administrative office in Caroga Lake, New York, where he, his wife Doris, and their son Brian continue to do a Herculean job with the administration and computerized communications.

For ten years, individual citizens and representatives of private property rights and wise use groups have gathered once each year in Washington, D.C. to inspire each other, network, and share the latest information. As president of the Property Rights Foundation of America, Carol LaGrasse later addressed the Fly-In convention over the years on such topics as National Heritage Areas, American Heritage Rivers, and conservation easements.

The Annual Fly-In for Freedom affords an excellent opportunity to meet leaders of the national property rights and wise use movement from throughout the country.

The Fly-In makes a great opportunity to team up with other property rights and wise-use activists to make your visits to Congress more effective.

During past years, important Congressional committees that are concerned with property rights and federal lands issues have scheduled official hearings to coincide with the time when the Fly-In comes to Washington. Watch for further developments in this area.

If you can make one yearly trip to Washington, D.C., schedule it to coincide with the Fly-In for Freedom! Register early and receive a big discount!
