Assemblyman Brodsky Introduces the Eminent Domain Ombudsman Act Again
Richard L. Brodsky (D-Westchester) introduced the Eminent Domain
Ombudsman Act (A1268) into the Assembly again. The bill is modeled
after the Utah State Property Rights Ombudsman. Craig Call, who
holds that position, spoke in 2004 and 2005 at PRFAs Annual
National Conference on Private Property Rights in Albany, describing
how the office effectively acts as an advocate for the property
owner and reduces litigation, therefore cutting costs at government
agencies. The office would be located in the State Department
of Transportation, an impartial agency with expertise and experience
in eminent domain.
