Empire State Greenway Rejected by Essex
County
Meeting in Elizabethtown in December, the Essex County Board of
Supervisors decided against participating in the vast Empire State
Greenway stretching from the Niagara River at the western edge
of New York State to Lake Champlain on the eastern border. Supervisor
Daniel Connell of Westport, which is on Lake Champlain, said,
I think the last thing any of us want is more regulations
put on us because we are a lakefront community. Once they get
their foot in the door, is this going to be another set of regulations?
The Empire State Greenway plan seeks to incorporate a regional
approach to land-use planning, tourism, recreational trail development,
and other collaborative initiatives. Source: Plattsburgh
