Gov. Spitzer Orders that State Agencies Broadcast Their Meetings over the Web, APA Asks for Exemption.
Stating that most members of the public cannot take advantage
of the Open Meetings Law to attend public meetings, Gov. Eliot
Spitzer issued an executive order on January 1 that all state
agencies subject to the Open Meetings Law must broadcast their
meetings over the web by July 1, 2007, and submit a plan to do
so by March 1. Citing financial obstacles, the Adirondack Park
Agency, which holds most of its meetings at a distant, isolated
location in the high peaks region in a little town near Lake Placid
where few members of the public can attend, requested an exemption
from the deadline to submit the plan.
