Ms. Linda M. Wheeler, Director
Office of Planning & Programming
Illinois Department of Transportation
2300 South Dirksen Parkway
Springfield. Illinois 52764
Attention: Mr. Keith Sherman
Planning and Systems Section Chief
Dear Ms. Wheeler:
Subject: Meeting of the Great Rivers Scenic
Byway (MGRSB) and the De-designation Request from Jersey County
This is in reply to your September 20,
2002 letter along with attached maps and legal descriptions requesting
the Federal Highway Administrations approval to de-designate
Illinois 100 from the Green County line south to the northern
boundary of the Pere Marquette State Park including the de-designation
of the Legate property on Illinois 100 adjacent to the south
side of Pere Marquette State Park. Jersey County has indicated
that it does not have the needed support from its farm community
for the program, and the farm community is concerned about future
impacts the program may have on their agricultural community.
You have also provided documentation that Jersey County has followed
your state guidelines for scenic byway de-designation.
Accordingly, we approve your request for
de-designation of the aforementioned portions of the MGRSB.
Sincerely,
Don R. Keith
Right-of-Way Program Manager
