Mike Miller

Introductory biography

Mike (a native of Olean, New York) has a BS degree in physics from St. Bonaventure University and a MS degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Tulsa. He is also a registered professional engineer. He has held engineering and management positions in the petroleum industry since 1981, working for Getty Oil Company, Texaco, Equitable Resources and DTE Energy. Since 2004, he has been employed at Marshall Miller & Associates, a technical consulting firm headquartered in Bluefield, Virginia, which provides petroleum, mining and environmental services. Mike has extensive U.S. and international experience with unconventional resources, including organic shales and coalbed methane. He is currently a senior vice president in his firm's oil and gas division, located in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Michael J. Miller, P.E., a petroleum engineer with more than 30 years of engineering and petroleum operations experience, has a B.S. degree in physics from St. Bonaventure University and a M.S. degree in petroleum engineering from The University of Tulsa. He provides Marshall Miller & Associates with a full range of drilling, production and reservoir engineering services. Mr. Miller has extensive experience assessing and developing organic shales in many geologic basins. He has assisted clients with reserve evaluations and lease negotiations in the Marcellus, Utica, Antrim, Woodford, Niobrara and other shale plays. He has also worked with deep gas plays, gas storage projects, secondary and tertiary oil recovery, salt water disposal and environmental projects. His clients have included oil and gas operators, landowners, and mid-stream pipeline companies.

Since 1988, when he was involved in developing the first commercial coalbed methane (CBM) project in the Central Appalachian Basin, he has been involved in all phases of CBM and coal mine methane (CMM) development, including project management, field development planning, CMM production model development, completions and production optimization, and gathering systems design. This work has encompassed coal basins in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Europe, and China.

Prior to joining MM&A, Mr. Miller worked as a Production and Reservoir Engineer for Getty Oil Company, as a Senior Development Engineer for Texaco, in a succession of positions with Equitable Resources — including Engineering Manager, and Vice President of Kentucky Operations, in operations management positions for DTE Energy and AMVEST, and as an independent engineering consultant. He has directed the drilling and production operations of thousands of wells and the construction of gathering systems and other infrastructure and has worked on both domestic and international projects.
