Robert G. Prentiss, Republican-Conservative-Independent, represents the 109th Assembly District, comprised of the towns of Colonie (Albany County), Clifton Park and Halfmoon (Saratoga County). Mr. Prentiss has served in elective public office for more than 35 years. A full-time legislator, Assemblyman Prentiss is the Ranking Republican Member of the Assembly Standing Committee on Economic Development and Job Creation and also serves on the Veterans Affairs and Higher Education Committees. Elected to the Assembly in 1994 and reelected in 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002, Mr. Prentiss served 19 years as an Albany County Legislator. Before moving to Colonie, he served as a City Councilman-at-large from 1965 to 1969 in his town of Pittsfield, Massachusetts. During the Korean War, Mr. Prentiss, at the age of 17, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country for three years, half of which he spent in Korea
Assemblyman Prentiss received his B.A. in Government from the University of Massachusetts and M.A. in Journalism from the State University of Iowa. He is certified to teach English and Social Studies at the secondary school level in both New York and Massachusetts, and has completed the academic requirements for a Doctoral Degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Albany. He taught journalism full-time at Ohio State University, has been a newspaper reporter and editor, and served as Director of Public Relations at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. His posts include Public Relations Director and Legislative Assistant specializing in the education field for former Assembly Speaker Perry Duryea and Director of Public Relations for St. Peter's Hospital. For more than 18 years, Mr. Prentiss has been a businessman in the private sector. He founded Prentiss Personnel Services in Colonie with his wife Marlene. His past and present veterans, civic, church and community service membership and offices are too numerous to list. He is a charter member of the Board of Directors of the Property Rights Foundation of America, Inc.
